Sea Kayak Classes

Gain all the knowledge and skills you will need from our certified instructors to allow you to take your kayaking to the next level. From a one day course, designed to shore up basic skills, to a full two day learning experience, we have a course that suits your needs. Our certified instructors are knowledgeable, passionate and eager to help you gain the skills needed to explore the world's waters safely. 

Introduction to Kayaking

Half day, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: $95/person


Did you just purchase a new kayak and want to take it for a test drive and learn to paddle it with confidence and control? Introduction to Kayaking is a half-day course with our ACA certified  instructors to help familiarize you with your kayak and the basic skills to be safe and efficient while on the water.


Topics covered:

  • Equipment and fitting

  • Planning a kayaking trip

  • Choosing appropriate conditions for your trip (weather, tides, rules of the road)

  • Equipment and fitting

  • Paddle strokes and efficiency

  • Injury prevention

This course is for those new to kayaking. By the end of this class, you will gain the confidence  needed to paddle your kayak more safely and confidently. Bring your own kayak for the half day course. Please bring water, lunch,  and a spare change of dry/warm clothes. There will be a 45-minute break between morning  and afternoon sessions.


Please bring:

  • Water shoes

  • Warm, non-cotton layers

  • Dry clothes to change into

  • Lunch, water bottle, snacks

Gear required:

  • Kayak and paddle

  • Personal flotation device (PFD)

Sea Kayaking Fundamentals

Full day, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM: $125/person


Sea Kayaking Fundamentals is a one-day jump start into the world of sea kayaking or an  effective way to prepare for paddling season. Taught by our ACA certified instructors, this  course will teach you the basic paddle strokes and rescue techniques to be safe and efficient  while on the water.


Topics covered:

  • Paddle strokes and efficiency

  • Injury prevention

  • Personal and partner rescue techniques

  • Wet exits and re-entry

  • Water-based navigation

  • Multi-day trip planning

This course is for those looking to learn new kayaking skills or brush up on current paddling  knowledge. Conforming to ACA standardized course material will familiarize you with time tested skills and the paddling and safety theory behind them. By the end of this class, you will  gain the confidence needed to use a kayak as a platform to travel and explore.


Bring your own kayak or rent a kayak and all necessary gear for $50 for the one-day course.  Wet suit or dry suit and other personal accessories are required, but not included in the rental  (let us know if you need help sourcing any gear). Please bring water, lunch, and a spare  change of dry/warm clothes. There will be a 45-minute break between morning and afternoon  sessions.

Sea Kayaking All-Star Strokes & Efficiency

Full day, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM: $125/person


Are you experienced in kayaking and want to take your skills up a notch? Whether it be  paddling more challenging conditions or longer distances, this one-day course builds off the  skills acquired in our Sea Kayaking Fundamentals course. Graduates of our Fundamentals  course are welcome to attend this course. Taught by our ACA certified instructors, this course  will teach you new skills and how to be more powerful and efficient with paddling strokes.


Topics covered:

  • Refining your forward stroke and turning strokes

  • Low braces / High braces

  • Low brace turn / high brace turn

  • Draw strokes

  • Ruddering strokes

  • Sculling

  • Side slip

This course is for those who have taken prior kayak instruction or would consider themselves  an experienced kayaker. By the end of this class, you will see noticeable improvement in your  paddle strokes, boat control, and paddling knowledge. You will also learn activities to take  home and practice on your own.


Bring your own kayak or rent a kayak and all necessary gear for $50 for the one-day course.  Wet suit or dry suit and other personal accessories are required, but not included in the rental

Sea Kayak Rolling

Half day, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: $95/person


Rolling a kayak is an essential skill for aspiring intermediate and advanced sea kayakers. Sea  Kayak Rolling is a one-day course aimed to help you execute your first kayak roll or refine your  current technique. Taught by our ACA certified instructors, this course will teach you the  building blocks to a reliable and repeatable kayak roll as well as skills on to feel more balanced  and stable in your kayak.


Topics covered:

  • Edging

  • Low brace / high brace

  • T rescues

  • Sweep roll

  • C-to-C roll

  • On-side vs. off-side rolls

  • Hand roll (for more experienced paddlers)

  • Injury prevention


Bring your own kayak or rent a kayak and all necessary gear for $50 for the one-day course.  Wet suit or dry suit and other personal accessories are required, but not included in the rental  (let us know if you need help sourcing any gear). The water in the Puget Sound is chilly and this course involves immersing yourself in that water, so please bring appropriate cold water gear (see below).  Please bring water, lunch, and a spare  change of dry/warm clothes. There will be a 45-minute break between morning and afternoon  sessions.


Please bring:

  • Wet suit or dry suit

  • Neoprene head cap / hood

  • Water shoes

  • Warm, non-cotton layers

  • Dry clothes to change into

  • Lunch, water bottle, snacks

  • Water immersion gear (optional)

  • Nose plugs

  • Watersport ear plugs

  • Goggles

  • Single sea kayak or touring kayak suitable for rolling (contact us with questions)

Sea Kayak 1-On-1 Private Lesson

Full day, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM: $250

Half day, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM:  $125
